Bridgeport residents Jimmie Bennett, 51, and Alphonso Thompson, 53, were arrested this week following an “extensive investigation” that was launched by the Milford Police Department in October last year.

According to police, the department noticed an uptick in motor vehicle burglaries in the area, prompting the investigation. During the burglaries, police said that the suspects “used a specific style.”

Investigators said that the incidents took place during overnight hours, and specifically targeted commercial parking lots. Entry into the vehicles was gained by prying the vehicles’ windows open until they broke.

The investigation led police to Bennett and Thompson, who were arrested, Milford Police investigators announced on Thursday, Jan. 24, and several alleged stolen items were recovered.

Bennett was charged with illegal use of a credit card, conspiracy to commit illegal use of a credit card and larceny. Thompson was charged with two counts each of illegal use of a credit card, credit card theft and larceny. Following their arraignment, Bennett was held on a $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Milford Court this week. Thompson was released and scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 12.

Police said that any local residents who believe they were the victim of a motor vehicle burglary should contact Milford Police Det. Dennis Broderick by emailing DBroderick@ci.milford.us or calling (203) 783)-4732.
